The new stressed ribbon bridge was inaugurated on 29 May 2013 in time for the opening of the Bavarian State Garden Show. The design by ANNABAU and Schüssler-Plan was selected as part of the landscape design competition for the State Garden Show "Nature in Tirschenreuth". The pedestrian and cyclist bridge links the old town to the garden showgrounds and is a sculptured wooden structure positioned on high-strength steel belts. Due to stressed ribbon bridge concept, the load-bearing structure does not actually appear and only requires a minimum of substructure. The easy mobility of the bridge and the vertical arrangement of the railing's timbers are reminiscent of moving reeds on the shore.
The stressed ribbon bridge has two spans, each 37.5 m long and is approximately 55 cm below its own weight. The stressed ribbon is anchored in the abutment at both ends of the bridge and guided over a saddle in the middle of the bridge. This saddle rests on a V-shaped central pillar approximately 2.40 m high which is elastically clamped into the concrete base and foundation. At the opening of the State Garden Show, the bridge was awarded a prize for a walkable, sculptured wooden structure.
