urban railway u5 European Quarter Frankfurt/Main

Stadtbahn U5 Europaviertel Frankfurt

Extension of suburban rail line U5 into the European Quarter
The European Quarter project lies within the circle of expansion, which took place during Frankfurt’s founding epoch, around the city centre and in the direct vicinity of the Central Station. It runs between the districts of Bockenheim and Westend in the north and the Gallus quarter to the south. The project includes the new construction of a double-track suburban railway line as an extension of the B track, which is intended to be used by the U5 line (Frankfurter Berg - Preungesheim - Konstablerwache - Central Station - European Quarter). The planned suburban railway line has an overall length of approx. 2,700 m, the first section of which will run underground using existing structures. In the vicinity of the Europa-Allee the track will run over-ground with the exception of a tunnel under the Europagarten. The scope of planning provided by Schüßler-Plan includes:

  • New construction of an inner-city tunnel using the mining method L = 900 m in two tunnels
  • New construction of suburban railway line L = 2.7 km
  • Adaptation of the existing traffic zones
  • New construction of 1 underground station
  • New construction of 3 overground stations
  • New construction of a cut-and-cover tunnel with L = 180 m
  • New construction of a ramp L = 123 m
