NEUER KANZLERPLATZ BONN

Structural planning for new solitary high-rise building in Bonn
Opposite the former Federal Chancellery in Bonn, Art-Invest Real Estate is developing an office district on an 18,000 m² site at Neuer Kanzlerplatz. This will offer a cutting-edge working environment coupled with a range of gastronomic offerings. The design concept for the ensemble of buildings, which comprises three polygonal 7-storey structures, comes from the JSWD Architekten design office. A 28-storey high-rise building forms the cornerstone of the development, which will complete the so-called Bonner Hochhauskranz ("Bonn high-rise ring") in 2022.

Schüßler-Plan has been commissioned to complete structural planning for the demanding structural design work for this section of the project, with its solitary building rising to over 100 metres. The architectural design proposes a 3-storey foyer area in which only the interior columns should stand, while the façade columns of the high-rise building are supported. The loads acting on these eight façade columns are transmitted via compression diagonals in floors 3 to 6 to four sculptural mega columns (max. Vk =40 MN) in the foyer. The horizontal driving forces thereby created are rerouted to the stiffening core of the high-rise via a steel lattice framework that has been inserted above floor 6.

The structural design work is performed completely in 3-D.
