HEINRICH CAMPUS DÜSSELDORF

Heinrich Campus
At a prominent location in Düsseldorf, directly on the corner of Heinrich-Ehrhardt-Strasse and Rather Strasse, a modern office building with two basement storeys is under construction for the user Deloitte. The original office complex was built between 1941 and 1970 by Rheinmetall as an office and canteen building. Over recent years the buildings have stood vacant and have since been demolished.

In addition to complete structural planning, Schüßler-Plan is also providing structural design and building planning services for the foundation pit and demolition planning services for the existing buildings. Together with Schüßler-Plan subsidiary company Reducta, the demolition planning application has been prepared and the necessary preliminary investigations and contamination analyses performed. The geotechnical services were provided by the Schüßler-Plan engineering firm’s geotechnical centre of competence and ICG Düsseldorf GmbH.

The almost triangular construction site has a total area of some 14,600 m² and is bordered by busy roads and several neighbouring buildings. For the planned underground demolition and new construction activities it was necessary to excavate to a depth of some 11 m – from the previous 8 m – over practically the whole site. To stabilise this difference in terrain height, provision was fundamentally made for an anchored soldier pile wall structure. At the border to the neighbouring "Gelbes Haus" ("yellow house") building a tangential bored pile wall was furthermore planned. Anchoring was not possible along the southern border to the neighbouring site, so the shoring was stabilised in this area using a retaining slope and adjacent internal bracing against the partially completed building shell.
