New line between Nuremberg and Ingolstadt

The new line diverges from the existing route at Feucht to the south-east of Nuremberg and then runs parallel to the A9 motorway for most its length. A total of nine tunnels (six bored, three cut-and-cover) with a total length of 27 km are required on this approx. 78 km stretch of line. The two longest tunnels are each between 7 and 8 km long and cut through the southern part of the Franconian Jura. The new line merges with the existing Treuchtlingen‒Ingolstadt line at Ingolstadt’s north station.

The twin tracks of the new line (slab track design) will be used to handle both local and inter-city passenger traffic plus express goods traffic. The maximum gradient is 2%.
