Conversion and refurbishment of Ostkreuz
(east interchange) rapid transit station, Berlin
Ostkreuz station is protected by a conservation order and is the busiest interchange between the rapid transit, light rail and ring lines.
The work has to be carried out with minimum interruption to railway operations and involves the demolition, renewal and/or modification of more than 60 structures. The heart of the station is the bridge structure spanning the tracks, which carries the four tracks of the ring line, with two new platforms up to 38 m wide, over the seven tracks and three platforms of the light rail system below.
